Automobile Magazine has a spy photo in the Feb '02 edition of the upcoming S4 replacement... They say that the car will probably have the 340 HP V8 from the S6 in place of the current 250 HP BiTurbo V6. Should be pretty sweet!

Based on the A4's moderate price hike, I'd guess a small increase over the current biturbo setup - in the range of $42k US? The article implies they're gunning for the M3, which is questionable due to the different nature of those 2 cars, so I'd expect Audi to try and keep the price below $45k US

 

And what sort of reliability?

 

Indeed, seems like skies the limits ... Though the prices seem to be more affordable which is a good thing.
