Default ups drivers

just wondering. I just talk to our ups guy and it's true that you have to work your way up to becoming a driver and as you work longer you get better routes, etc.

but what's the pay rate like for ups drivers who's been driving for 5 years?

apparently, people retire from ups rather than quit, that's why the driver position is so hard to get.

Does anyone search Google these days?

A quick search of "UPS driver salary" told me that they average $55K a year with up to $70K with overtime. They average $24.69 an hour, per another link.

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles...ar_union_blues/

Per UPS' website, the drivers average $27.34 an hour (nearly $57K a year).

When I was at UPS the pay rate after being there for 2 and a half years is 28$ an hour. Anytime past 6 o'clock was overtime. Once you have been there that long usually you get the route you would like to do. Once you get into the swing of things on a route its relatively easy . However I left because I didn't want it to be my career.

They're mostly Teamsters, with reasonably pay and benefits. The thing that UPS does smartly though is promote from within.

I did one Christmas as a Driver's Helper, and our floor manager was a former loader who worked his way up. He said his boss (Director) also started as a loader.

The last time they had the ups strike when the company shut down for a month or so the average driver pay was $70k when counting overtime and that was what 8 years ago. I would imagine you could do better than this.

Great job especially for someone who may struggle with school. A guy I went to HS with who was a moron and now drives. He would not have done well in college.

It is a pretty repetitive job to do for 30 yrs but pay is good. On the downside, a friend who was working at UPS in college quit fairly quickly. The pay was good but you start as a loader or unloader and sit in a garage at 4 in the morning working up a sweat while a couple dozen trucks idle deisel exhuast indoors. He said he would get lightheaded and sick sometimes.

But when you start and have your mind set on getting the driver job, so do the other 80 loaders you are working with and they have seniority over you.

If you are a sharp guy, I'd say learn computers. One friend has a two year from DeVry and makes $120k sitting in an air conditioned office building instead of fighting traffic all day and sucking diesel exhaust.
