Default US Postal Service - What's up with it?

I have a number of orders from early Oct 2001 that have been held up for weeks in the US Postal System. I know Anthrax scares have possibly slowed things down a bit but what I don't understand is that orders sent after this date have since arrived in normal time.

I know it's taken months for me to take delivery of items sent to me in Australia from Mingster and other sponsors. Have any other vendors experienced delays due to events around this time? Is the USPS always so unreliable? --Muz

No.

Mail processing has slowed down in specific regions of the country, and international packages are being scrutinized with more care. I've not experienced unusual delays with either national or international shipments to Florida. If you've ever travelled to 3rd world countries, you can only appreciate the efficiency of the USPS.

Muz, do you have some packages delayed and others that go through on a normal timetable? If so, part of the problem may be the region that the packages were going to.

I sent off a package by airmail to biker1 in the U.K. nearly a month ago. He still hasn't received it. It also took more than a month for me to receive a similar package, from the U.K. If this is airmail service, they must be using bi-planes.

Is the common (and not entirely unwarranted) perception of the USPS. At first I was puzzeled that the anthrax investigation in New England had turned up letters and envelopes mailed over a month and a half ago and thought "how can they still be in transit?". Then I remembered "Oh Yeah, we are talking US Mail. I can believe that."

Take heart!

The USPS will soon use "IT" to deliver mail!

I feel better already!

Yes I do and it's only from early to mid October that was affected. Since then everything has returned to normal. Fortunately most customers are decent understanding folk who understand the situation in the US. Unfortunately there are always one or two that are totally unreasonable people that order and then refuse to accept responsibility for their choice of shipping but I guess you get that anywhere.

The USPS seems to always have been unsecure unless you insure it, ceritfy it, or
3-5 Air Mail - It will only get there if you pay them extra
Doesn't the Government run this too
