Trojanhorse,

Y'all have an excellent baseball program. Maybe you ought to skip football and hold out for the spring festivities.

There are a ton of Trojans on this board. I actually have a friend that works in the general counsel's office and he gets us season tickets every year. Hopefully, this year, we'll have tickets next to Sample's section. I think he sits on the 50.

Fight On!!!

As much as my Trojan blood hates to say it, we should have jumped on Lou Holtz when he was available. Since we missed that boat, we should have snaggeed either of the Oregon or Oregon State coachs but with our POS Atheletic Director meddling in everything neither Bellotti or Erickson would touch our job with a 10 foot pole. The pressure to excel is SO sky high at a place with the tradition of SC that it is damn near impossible to live up to it. Then add a dipshit AD in your face and a University President like Sample who doesn't give 2 shits about athletics and the Head Coaching job at SC becomes a tough sell. We need to can Garrett before we will ever get another good coach. I'm predicting Carroll will flooze in a few years and then hopefully he'll take Garrett down with him.

Until then, pass the Southern Comfort and Wild Turkey.

Before you give up on Carroll, I think he has assembled one of the best coaching staffs around. He hired Norm Chow as OC and that should do wonders for our play calling. Remember, Hacket's favorite play was to run it up the middle and it was soooooo predictable.

Supposedly, Carroll is going to be the DC. He was an awesome DC in the pros, so let's hope he can transfer that to the college game.

Initially, I felt the same way as you. I thought Garrett f*cked up again. But after the hiring of all the staff, it might not be too bad. Just a few more weeks until the season starts, and we'll see how the team performs.

Let me quote the recently departed John McKay, greatest Trojan Coach of all

"Boy, do I hate to see the scene in the dressing room where a player gets up with tears in his eyes and says, 'We'll get 'em next year.' 'Damn it,' I think, 'why didn't we get them this year? Don't worry about the next one. Next year may come and we may all be dead."

Sample

If your friend needs some entertainment for a Christmas party or whatever, let him know that you've met (sort of) a great magician who is a huge USC fan (father attended there, grandfather taught there).

As for coaching, TH is right that the pressure is too high--no upside, all downside. It's like driving for Enzo Ferrari: his CARS won races, his DRIVERS lost races. But if Carroll will let his assistants do their jobs without meddling . . . .

Anyone for trying to reincarnate McKay?

Sample is the president of USC. Since my buddy is the assistant general counsel there, he gets to sit with the other big wig faculty.

Remember, to get good tickets at SC, it's who you know OR how much money your willing to donate
