Let's I will pay $37K for a used car through a private party transaction.

But let's say I don't want to pay tax on top of that.

Is it possible to buy a used car without getting taxed? Meaning, have the seller somehow on the papers say he's selling it to me for 35K, but I give him cash for 37K.

You can do that, many do, but it's called fraud, I think.

I have heard of people doing that. They claim it is a gift from the other party. But that was on a really old car and they said they were related.(Same last name, foreigners)

I have also heard of people under declaring. It is a common practice, just don't be too extreme on it.

Arizona has no sales tax on cars bought from a private party. Nice incentive to stay away from dealers.
