Please note that giving a red envelope is only for individuals who are married. At least in Chinese tradition. So if you're 21 and single I would highly recommend another form of gift.
Nope! Money is appreciative from everyone.

Red envelope and $$.
If its a coworker, you could get away with giving less!
This will also work when celebrating the Lunar New Year!

When it comes to Chinese/Vietnamese wedding. We don't give out gift. We give out red envelope with money in it. Ppl usually give 50 dollar for each person who attend the resturant thingy ..thats if you are not that close to the couples. Thats how much I gave out for my friend's sister wedding and I met her at the resturant for the first time.

Because of money received, Asian weddings normally make a net profit at the end of the day.

Like what S2020 said. Red packets given to:

1. Singles during Chinese New Year.

2. Birthdays

3. Funerals

4. Weddings

Red packets not given out:

1. Married couples

2. Dates

3. Strippers
