Volvo S60T5 vs Mercedes C320
Which one would you pick?
Mercedes costs more than the Volvo especially when it's optioned out. Which one would you pick if money doesn't come into play. And is the C320 worth the extra money if MB was your choice.

No comparison...Mercedes are simply the best cars in the world. Amongst other things, they make their own parts, while Volvo borrows from a lot of other brands. Remember the simple rule: You get what you pay for...
They borrow from other brands? I kind of disagree with you there simply cause I find Volvo to be quite innovative especially in the safety department. The thing is that Mercedes is a better brand name and I have no doubt that the C320 is a smoother car but the build quality of the car has really been questioned. I think both cars look nice and if it was the same price I will probably buy the Mercedes. But is it worth the difference?
lvs2k. Well Mercedes is Chrysler.
Seriously guys. I don't exactly want to get into a brand fight. We like both and think both are great cars in their own right. We have yet to test drive the C320 but will do so soon. But I'm asking ahead of time because I believe we'll think the C320 to be better, just that it may not be worth the extra money. I mean nobody has mentioned that the T5 is faster than the C320 straightline.
Most reviews put the Mercedes on top except for Edmunds.

Well Howie
You have to buy the car you want. It appears that the Volvo is going to be your choice. Obviously, if performance between the two is the key criteria, the T5 is the obvious preference. If that is the sole criteria though, perhaps you should look at some other options.
Traditionally, Mercedes has set the benchmark in build integrity. I am aware that there have been some questions raised regarding their build quality recently but when you set the benchmark, people simply expect higher standards. It's like the perception that Tiger Woods has failed when he comes second.
My father has always owned Benzes for the past thirty years and they have always been absolutely reliable in all quarters. They are not my choice as I find them a little dull personally but perhaps in ten years time.........

Again, let's set some things straight...
1. Daimler Group bought Chrysler, not the other way around...and good news for Chrysler, because they are making crap cars and it shows...
2. In Britain, where we design all or parts of most of the cars you get (Volvo, GM, Saab, Humvee, Toyota etc etc), we know that the Volvo shares most of the mechanical components of other Fords...now if adding a few more airbags and making it 2 tonnes heavier, you believe you are getting a car better than Mercedes, I say you are getting a better Ford...
3. And yes brand name counts, because brands are not created out of rumours, but out of producing consistent quality and exciting cars over decades.
4. Let's face it. You are between C320 and a T5...obviously you are not looking for a sports car...and obviously speed is of low priority. If speed is of higher priority I say buy an Audi RS4...
I hope this helps

I like the S60 better.
C320 was crossed out from my shopping list late in the game.
So I liked it most of the time.
When I found out how small inside and how cheap the material was, it was a total turn off.
TL-S and S60 were my finalist.
I got a TL-S with Nav.
If you don't like Honda, for some reason, I'd still take S60.
However, if you must have a German car for 40k or less, I'd take C320.
