Are these companies who pay dismal wages and destroy downtown America good or bad.

I prefer Meijers, but unless you live in Michigan, you are left with Mr Walton or Kmart I'm afraid. They may be hurting some of the smaller "Mom and Pop" stores but they sure have good prices!

Meijers rocks! They're also found in Indiana and Ohio, possibly more.

As for wally-world, I prefer Target. They are generally cleaner and more enjoyable to be in, and the people are usually nicer too, at least in my experience. Wal-mart is cheaper, but unless you count pennies, it's usually not that big of a deal.

I don't think that the third and fourth options should be exclusive of each other in the poll!

They may kill downtown America, but as you say, the strong survive! Not necessarily a good thing, but that is the way of capitalism!

Personally, I like 'em. I root for the big companies. What can I say, I'm a capitalist.

I voted that Wal-Mart destroys downtown America, but I have to say this: Sam Walton was a friggin' genius - pure capitalist through and through.

About a small town's (Ashland, VA) fight when Wal-Mart decides to move in.

When Walmart is the only store left, how good will it be and what competition keeps them in line then? The headquarters is only 50 miles north and people around here are starting to turn against the smalltown killer. Thousands of jobs lost every week.
