Default Warmer places to move?

So, I thought this might be a fun topic. I hate the winters in Upstate New York and have always wanted to move somewhere warmer. It's April 1st and we still have a foot of snow in my yard! I just graduated college and my girlfriend will be in the next year or so (both RN's) so this seams like a reasonable time to start looking.

So my question is: What are some nice, warmer, affordable areas for a young couple to move to?

We don't mind a light winter but would like something milder than here. Being close-ish to the ocean is a must. Would prefer an area with lots to do (good restaurants, concerts, etc).

Suggestions!?

The southern states seem affordable compared to the West. Its out of control.

New Orleans is the place to be.

Great Food, Jazz Fest, Mardi Gras, Bourbon Street, French Quarter,"Hollywood South"..........

I lot of demand for nurses at great medium sized hospitals on the "North Shore" of New Orleans. Nursing pay is very high, compared to the cost of living.

Less than one hour drive to Gulfport/Biloxi, MS white sand beaches. Three hour drive to Gulf Shores, AL or Pensacola, FL.

Don't take my word for it. Spend one weekend here and decide for yourself.

Cool suggestions! I've never been down south, other than Florida.

My initial thoughts were Connecticut; Massachusetts; Delaware; Maryland; California; Portland, Oregon; etc.

Keep em coming!

How about parts of North/South Carolina/Georgia. If you stay just a few miles inland it's probably much less expensive than being along the coast.

There's some great places to live in California that are not egregiously expensive. However, they're not great places for young couples to raise a family, or live a nice, comfortable, suburban/small town life.

Grass Valley and/or the greater Sacramento area might work for you, but bear in mind they'll still seem outrageous coming from upstate NY.
