I hate wasps and their nests!

I just use a spray bottle filled with liquid soap and water. Shake and spray. Just don't use too much soap. Take down the nest after.

I was gonna suggest a bit of gasoline and a match, but you wanna keep the bushes...so the soap/water mix is probably your best bet(works well againts mud daubers,so I'd assume is effective against wasps)

your location = "In the heart of the USA" so wait for a cold day and spray the nest, almost anything will work, maybe even soap. remove the nest when inactive. no big thingy.

Guess I should change that location. I'm pretty much on the Gulf Coast where we rarely get cold days. Waiting for one would let them hatch and I'd have even more. I need to trim the bushes and I'm not a fan of being stung. Blue Honda girl's suggestion might just work but the bushes are so thick I can't see the nests.

We've got a wasp problem. Last fall I sprayed 53 active nests one morning. I have fewer this year but I still have sprayed over 20 in the last week.

Thanks for the suggestions. Any more?

look around maybe off your proptery, is there an existing population?

i just use a can of raid but i do have a pump sprayer and in your case would buy and use one. get bottle of the latest concentrated bug killer for flying insects from home depot. dont think it takes much once the nest is sprayed.

cover your body with as much clothing as possible

I have used the regular cans of raid without damaging plants, but Inkow that is not a guarantee. The vapor alone kills them so you could experiment with spraying part of a can into a pie tin or something and setting it outside one of the nests and see what happens.

When I painted houses in college there was some product that you could add to paint that I bought at the paint store. It comes in little vials and you would add it to the paint and it was supposed to keep bugs off the house for a few years. If you opened up a vial anywhere near wasps, they would start falling out of the sky. But it cam in small quantities and was expensive.

Spray the nests off the bushes first with a hose, with pressure.

Then with the nests and pist off wasps, spray wasp killer on them.

Use a shovel to smash nests, or pick them up and put them in a bucket with gas, or soapy water.

Repeat as nessacary.

Oh, the stings don't hurt to bad.
