I usually drink a gallon of bottled water per day. Just easier for me. I can taste the nuances between brands by now. If you have well water or questionable public have it tested. If it tastes poorly add a filter.
Water is water, as long as it has been filtered to some extent (Tap water). Bottled water taste better, but isnt better for you.
There are all kinds of studys out there about all the crap in lots of tap and bottled water (Much comes from places like Dallas Municiple(sp) water supply). However, even though water x is better than water y; they cant seem to find any proof that drinking "bad" water is any worse for you, or that drinking "good" water is any better for you.
(My aunt is crazy about her water, ect. I just think she is crazy)

If you live in a large municipal area, the tap water you drink should be tested and sampled regularly (weekly) and from various locations within that city. Their treatment of it is constantly monitored also. Calgary tap water is like this and is considered to be excellent drinking water even though it is very "hard" water. That having been said, if you have a propensity toward kidney stones, you might want to avoid such water.
Distilled water has virtually nothing in it as "stuff" is left behind when it is turned to steam. It is the condensed steam that you would drink. Thus, you would get no minerals if you drink this and your body naturally needs some minerals so you had better eat foods that will provide you with those.
Filtered water can leave many of the dissolved minerals intact (if that's what you want) but can leave a "taste" due to the filtration media that it uses, especially when the cartridges get older. Water can be filtered for particulates down to whatever "microns" you like. It can also be filtered through an "ion exchange" system that can remove charged particles like heavy metals, acids and bases. It can also incorporate a chamber where the water can be irradiated with UV light to kill off bacteria.
There is spring water and there is spring water. Some are high in certain things like aluminum. Not good if you are worried about Alzheimer's.
And not all springs give consistently good water.
I drink out of my taps. What you drink will depend on what you want or don't want in your water and your own "tastes" and paranoia.
One thing's for sure: I'll now look at buying "Slurpies" from the 7-11 a bit more judiciously since they found that those spigots have been found to have fecal matter from dirty rotten little kids scratching their butts and sticking their fingers up into the nozzle to get the last bit of Slurpie out.

I concur with xviper. Clean water is very important. Most people do not want to spend the time or care about the quality of drinking water in their location.
If you are really concerned about the quality of any water you take in, get it tested. For tap water, just contact your local water department and inquire about quality and tests conducted.
For added protection get a Brita
BTW distilled water is not chlorinated...don't drink it.
No more "Slurpies" for me

Hose water tastes the best to me. I drink about 1.5 gallons of water per day, and it is all from tap. I have had no problems.....Wait, my stomach hurts??? Oh No!! i'm blind. Seriously, it's freakin water, the best water for you is probobly if you go and drink from a stream as nature intended.
