Becasue when you delete everyting, the web server will give you the default html page and there is not one. But with the rest (eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2928256385) you get and item. If you go to ebay and do a search for S2000, click an item and you will see it is comming from cgi.ebay.com.

 

It's real. Unless your DNS/host file/whatever-you-use-to-resolve-hostnames has been tempered with, if a hostname ends with .ebay.com it belongs to EBay.

blah.ebay.com, foo.ebay.com, whatever. If it's something like ebay.net etc, that's a little shady.

However, there is ebay.com.au (ebay australia), and localized ebays for various other nations as well.

 

ok, I'm no web genius, but what is the difference between the regular sites and sites preceeded with the "cgi." or rather, why would you use one over the other if the destinations are the same?
