What do you think of the Celica?

My wife took the day off to drive from LA to San Diego. She wanted to trade in her 2000 Accord LX Sedan for a 2001 Camry. Instead I get a call from her at noon saying she's test driving a Celica. She ended up getting it. I haven't seen it yet. She'll be home in a few hours. What do you guys think of it?

I hope it's a GTS with 6 speed, otherwise it's not very fast...

No she got the GT. Carbon Blue. The insists that its a family car. I don't think so. She also said it's considered a 2 door sedan. Wouldn't that be a Coupe? She is so funny. I think she's still two hours away. I don't even wanna drive it. Don't like driving her cars especially after the bus accident.

...well, that's what you get when you have your woman buying her own car...

She wanted me to go with her, but I had to work. It's ok though. She likes it.

Ouch, she sounds like a guy trying to justify a impulse purchase to his wife (especially with the car stuff).

The Celica is an Integra/Eclipse competitor. There is no back seat space, rear visibility is nil and insurance may be high (although the GT will be cheaper than the GTS).

Its peppy, but not fast by any measurement (0-60 under 8 seconds if you're good). Sporty looks (probably why she bought it) and it is a Toyota. You should probably be glad she didn't buy a GTS as it appears Toyota has to correct a big problem with the 6-spd in that car (seems more driver error, but people are shifting into the wrong gear and blowing engines, much worse than our S2K problem).

Anyways, as long as she's happy - and anything's better than an SUV, right :-)

Actually it's more of a hatchback than a coupe .

Heh, I have a review of the new Celica at my website. Just thought you might wanna see how it rates from the perspective of a S2000 driver...

I dont think your country has the Nissan S15(200SX), which costs about the same money as the Celica here in New Zealand...Thats the one I rate!

Happy Car shopping! Tell us what she chooses in the end...
