Default What does Minority Interest mean?!?!?!

I'm doing an essay in my political science class and my professor wanted me to describe how the Constitution insured protection of minority interests (address liberty & equality)....

I'm not sure what my professor is referring to when he says minority interests, and I Googled online and can't find the definition for it!

Does anyone know? I need it in the context of politics, not economics.... Professor is not answering my e-mails.

If the majority wants slavery, who protects the rights of the potential slaves (who, we assume, do not want slavery)?

(By the way, it's ensured, not insured.)

If our form of government were a true democracy, then whatever the majority says would be what goes.

Whats interesting is that up until the 1930s is that our form of government was never referred to as a democracy (it was FDR that changed this in his attempts to pass welfare based programs), in fact, the US Army Handbook strictly said that democracy was an undesireable form of government, and that democracy was mob rule (and correctly so) If a mob or group of people wanted to kill James, they vote, and he dies...

The constitution provides protection to "minority interests", ie, protects the rights of James, so that the mob (aka democracy) can not take away his rights/life.

The United States' form of government is called a Constitution Republic, the Constitution lays the ground rules and protects certain rights, and we elect people to represent our interests (Republic) that do not infringe on the rights protected by the Constitution. (or at least that is how it is supposed to work).

There's your answer.

We don't allow political discussion in the public forums as it becomes too heated and contentious. However we do have a lively (but respectful) Politics forum available for members.

Please consider supporting the site with a membership and full access to our member-only forums. https://www.s2ki.com/membership

PS. Membership includes nifty profile options and classified ad posting too! It's good value, we hope you'll agree.

With that, I will now close this topic.
