Default What GPS to buy.

My girlfriend wants a GPS for her birthday. I really don't want to buy her one because I know she will use it a few times and then never again, or she will still get lost because she doesn't know how to properly work it/ follow it.

If I was buying a GPS for my car id go all out and get the best thing around, but she doesn't need that. Whats a good one that I can buy at Best Buy for under 500$ and is very very user friendly? Only one that comes to mind to me is the Tom Tom.

I'm VERY happy with my Garmin Nuvi 660. It retails for $800, but you can find it in the mid $500 range if you look around enough. If you're not willing to stretch that far, the Nuvi 360 can definitely be found for under $500; which is just as capable, just not widescreen.

EDIT: My mom knows how to use it. Enough said.

my mom has the garmin c330...not sure how old it is but again..she can use it...it also runs on battery for a few hours so its very convenient if you have radar or a phone charger...i think its cheaper than the nuvis if its still out

Nuvi 350/360/whatever. It's brilliant: small, easy to use, and extremely useful. I love walking around a city and instantly pulling up all kinds of stuff to do. Find parking, places to eat, etc.

Nuvi + iPhone = traveler's nirvana.

So true. We had a similar situation yesterday where our Navi in the Odyssey couldnt' find a place so I looked it up on the iphone and then typed the address in the navi and off we went!
