The gangster kid got all freaked out when the other kid got in "kung fu stance." Yeah, that kid got way too close, if the thug knew how to street fight/box, there's nothing martial arts could do, other than to kick him before he gets close enough to swing.

There isn't general rule for martial arts. Some arts like to fight from a distance and some prefer close. The end result is all that counts.

Ask a well-schooled martial artist what his best technique is and he/she is likely to say, "case by case." You don't box a boxer and you don't exchange kicks with a kicker.

Whether Mr. Kung Fu was too far to too close is irrelevent. For that fight on that day he walks away, so I guess he picked correctly.

Nah, he just got lucky. If you observe, both of them were swinging vertically. No straight punches. Where in martial arts are you taught to swing like that? One straight punch to the jaw and the kung fu kid will be in the hospital for a week. Thats only my opinion of course...

I agree. All that guy knew was how to stand. He threw a wild punch. Garbage.

I think he was practicing a Dutch style called Flailing Windmill. There is no known defence.
