I wanted to see pics, found this -- http://www.forbes.com/collecting/2006/07/2...728collect.html

The General Lee ("a" General Lee?) almost made #2 slot a while back but wasn't its original auction result invalid?

MSRP or auction, whatever, the most expensive car sold ever. It couldnt have been that Bugatti which is actually ($17.6 million adjusted for inflation)... thought there was a Mercedes W or something?

Ya here it is the 1954 Mercedes W 196, selling for $24 mil, can anyone beat that?

The record at an auction is held by a 1930 Bugatti Type 41 at around $11,000,000 back in the late 1980's

It's the largest production car ever built and had a sticker price (adjusted for inflation) of $700,000.

That record is expected to be broken by a couple of mil by the '38 Auto Union (now known as Audi) Type D, but its authenticity keeps being questioned and the auction date keeps getting posponed:

Private sales among collectors are harder to keep track of since some prices aren't disclosed. I remember some Ferrari GTO's going for close to 15,000,000 during the 1980's Ferrari frenzy.
