By "best", I mean what's the most selfless thing you've ever done? What is that one thing that you know made the world a better place? It can be something big or small. Donate a kidney? Save an accident victim's life? Buy a meal for a homeless person?

The best thing I've ever done was coach three seasons of Little League baseball. As I don't have kids, I only wanted to pass on my knowledge and love of the game to underprivileged kids. Although I did not expect anything in return, I was fortunate enough to learn some things about patience, understanding, and commitment. I also learned how lucky I have been thus far in my life.

I know this may seem like a sappy request, but I really need to hear how good of place this world can be.

Ahh a pat on the back thread!

Well, by far the best thing I ever did was save a little girl. I was out front of my neigbours yard chatting. Thier daughter ( about 7yrs ) was playing and ran into the street as a car was coming. I noticed this, and dove into the street, grabbed her, and thru her on to the sidewalk. The car did not stop in time, and hit my leg as I passed. I suffered a broken leg, but as you can imagine, it was well worth it. The car surely would have ran her down. Now the funny thing was, that at that moment, I didn't think, I didn't weigh the conseqences, I just did it. Every day, when I see her, and she says hello, I think about how an extra second could have changed everything. I'm a proud Godfather This happened 4 years ago.

I volunteered with my friend while on my Thanksgiving break (I was visiting him in Florida, where I used to live) to help give a Thanksgiving meal to the elderly. In the process my hands were scalded raw, and I wasn't too happy at the end of the day because it wasn't what I had been expecting (I didn't get to eat, and it was 3 pm before I ate anything all day), but when we were saying bye to the people, I saw this one guy who was carrying his leftovers in a plastic bag, and he looked like a kid in a candy store as he thanked us. My hands still hurt like hell for the rest of the day, but I'd gladly do it all over again just to see that look on that guy's face.

I was working overseas and done numerous things for many disadvantage people. But the one that stands out is the orphanage. After hearing about an orphange that was not to far from where I was living I decided that I would take some clothes there to give to the children. Once there, I could not believe my eyes at the condition the building was in. So I went around the community (a lot of westerns lived where I lived) got some donations and volunteers and we fixed up the orphange. What great feeling to see the smiles on the children.

Donated my Corvette to the Red Cross. Of course I took the deduction, but I would have made more with a private sale.

I married my wife with two kids. 18 years later I'm DAD and the father is rarely ever seen or heard from/about. Now I have 4 precious grandchildren. Any man can be a Father, but it takes someone special to be a DAD. I wouldn''t trade a minute of it.

I was with my lady @the beach around 1am and we were held up at gunpoint by a guy in jeans and a ski mask. He wanted money but we don't bring our wallets and such when walking on the beach. Who does. I didn't know what he was going to do so i talked him into leaving and promising we weren't going to call the cops or anything. I don't know if the gun was loaded or not, but what's the point in taking the risk? The whole thing kinda messed me up a bit for a month but I don't think about it anymore. She is alright with it now. It may sound a bit selfish in nature to talk yourself out of this (saving your ass) but I thought of her 1st, which I am proud of. I think that's the best thing I have done.

Wow, it was really dumb of me to bring this up again. Gives me a slight chill.

BTW, it was a 1/4 mile south of Powerhouse Park in Del Mar, CA. Just in case some other people live around there. He was hiding along the cliffside where the moon doesn't reflect sunlight well.
