Default Whats the deal with Anime, Japanese animation....

Am I the only one who thinks its pretty stupid?

I am not comparing american cartoons to asian born ones, but american cartoons (ie Family Guy, South Park, Simpsons) have funny stories, political humor, etc etc.

I watched an anime cartoon last night and thought is was pointless drivel.

What is the obsession with anime? Is it the new Pokemon craze?

Am I not getting something?

It really depends on what you end up watching. There is some amazing Anime out there. Fantastic animation with extremely rewarding story lines. However, there is also tons and tons of horrible, pointless anime. It's much easier to find the bad than the good.

Most Anime by Studio Ghibli is worth watching.

However, some of the other pieces that people rave about I just don't get. eg: Ghost in the Shell.

Anime is a broad topic. The stuff for kids like Pokemon is awful. The stuff for grownups like Ghost In The Shell is very good.

I like:
Ghost In The Shell
The Big O
Full Metal Alchemist

I'm Scottish.

Anime is big in the UK. Tends to more of an age thing.
