After years of thinking on this I am buying a bike.
I want either an R6 or F4i and all the dealers I talk to
say list. You'd think I was trying to buy an S2k
I can get them down a couple hundred bucks but then I read on one of the Sportbike forums that says I should be able to get $1000 off sticker.
Anybody have a friend in the bussiness?

I know, I hear it from the wife all the time.
She is an ORRN and she gets to help sow these guys back together.
She has some great horror stories.

Anyone who calls sportbikes "donorcycles" is just plain fu*#ing ignorant. I've ridden sport bikes for 3 years, 20,000++ miles, w/ no incidents. 3 track crashes resulted in 1 injury, a scraped up arm and a fair bit of pain. Yes, I sold my streetbike (a R1, & had a R6 before it) for many reasons, including that I'm having similar fun in the S2K w/ more safety...but I'll still ride it (now parked in my neighbor's garage ) from time to time. Ironically, I recently started dirtbiking again after 20 years off, and sprained my ankle after a botched landing @ the MX track Sunday (my first real motorcycle injury as an adult).

Yes, people get killed and hurt on motorcycles, but the same applies to cars. Riding/driving responsibly makes a huge difference in your safety.

Funcar, you should consider something a bit mellower to start w/, like a Suzuki SV650. Still lots of fun, but cheaper, easier to ride, and no expensive plastic to replace if you crash it. I'd also buy used...there are tons of great R6's and F4's out there for reasonable prices. Good luck getting a new one for $1K off - they're both hot bikes!

Chris S
I bought the R6 and no I didn't get $1000 off.
I too had dirt bikes 20 years ago and they are a blast.
I thought about getting an SV650s but the R6 rocks.
I have owned 7 bikes this is the my first new one.

Funcar,

Congrats on your R6, it's an awesome bike! If you plan on riding it hard, the best/first mod you should consider is a Scotts steering damper - it made a huge improvement in stability on my old R6, esp. gassing it on corner exits and wheelie landings.

BTW, my rec. to get something mellower was based on the assumption that you were a newbie.

Chris,
Thanks for the mod tip. I will look into it.
I will be slow for awhile until I figure this thing out.
I sold my last bike 20 years ago(CR250). I have ridden a few since.
I have no plans on wheelies or stoppies. I consider myself
a simi-newbie.

I just sold my R6. I purchased it last year at about this time. I paid full price, but I got them to throw in a $350 helmet. I thought the stook would be enough for me. Now, I kind of miss the bike feeling. I'll probably wait a year and get an RC51 or a 996.

Be careful! The guy that bought my bike dumped it in my parking lot five minutes after he paid for it. No injuries, just a fvcked up mid fairing and crank case cover. Enjoy!
