Default Where does most SPAM come from?

I'm just wondering, on average I get between 15-20 e-mails a day and usually 90% of them is virus containing crap. How does this come about? It seem obvious my e-mail address is being picked up by bots, probably from the "mail to" on my webpage (or is there another common way?). How do I provide this address to allow people to contact me, without getting all the extra crap?!

there are professional spammers that make a living off of doing it. email lists are sold every day by all sorts of places.
