Where should I go on vacation this year?
My wife and I haven't had a real vacation in almost 2 years. I'm talking 2 weeks of 'no worries', just relaxing, eating and drinking. We haven't given it much thought and would like some suggestions.
We are not into the ocean/saltwater beaches and do not like to bake in the sun . . . aside from that, we are pretty open to suggestions.
Prior trips which we have enjoyed include:
* napa/sonoma wine country
* calgary/banff/lake louise
* pac northwest - seattle, wine country, columbia river gorge, crater lake
* motor touring thru europe
* british isles
* disney world
Budget is not a major issue - airfare and some hotels will be covered using airmiles accumulated thru work.
Any suggestions, thanks in advance.
Michael

Seattle is cool ... only been there once but the NW owners will undoubtedly chime in here. Been to the Columbia River gorge windsurfing - so be warned it's windy in the summer afternoons. Beautiful waterfalls and scenery - interesting to stop at the dams and read about them and their impact on the salmon ...
Europe - great beer in Belgium, great wine in France ... cool to see places you've only read about. Probably wouldn't be super relaxing if you wanted to see places.
My 2 cents! Bottom line is: 2 weeks on vacation anywhere is going to rock!
AnDy_PaNdY,
Excellent suggestions, I would love to do a barge vacation BUT my wife has gotten a little tired of England. . . I know, I can't believe it either.
I have spend a great deal of time (read years) in London and Bournemouth with work and my fiance/wife usually came over for long weekends so we are quite familiar with the UK. I don't know if I could talk her into another two weeks in the UK.
Regards,
Michael

Mike,
Alaska! We wnet about 10 yrs. ago. We did a combination of land package and cruise.
The place is majestic and there are so much wilderness. The place is immense and gives you that insignificant, humble feel.
If you don't like beaches but would like to go to warm climates and have a sense of adventure, get a scuba certification. I spend lots of time in the tropics, but never lay and bake on a beach. Fish watching, it's like bird watching only wetter.
