Where in the world do you want to go?
Been there, done that. I didn't particularly enjoy Amsterdam. Thought the city was a little too dirty for my tastes. The only good things were the red light district and the coffee bars.

You probably can't beat traveling around Europe if you're planning on a 6-month vacation. The main pros are: You can drive from one country to almost to any other country, either within a matter of hours, or within one or two days max; the scenery can vary from beautiful to breathtaking; there's more history than you can possibly absorb; great shopping almost everywhere; and (outside the U.K.) most people speak (some) English as a second tongue.
I've worked in, or visited, over 35 countries around the world - with varying social standards. I've found that the most enjoyable countries are those where people can communicate easily in English, and where you can always find good food. You can get miserable very quickly if you don't speak or understand the language, or if the food is not the kind or the same quality that you're used to. (Try working in Mexico City for a year. You can feel downright suicidal!)
I would love to live in Japan for a 6 months period. I've always admire the unity Japanese people had shown among themselves.
I think its good to be a foreigner once in a while, one would learn more about racial and culture respects when you are the one getting dissed ...... it doesnt feel good at all, so maybe one would learn to not dis foreigners anymore.

i was lucky enough to live in japan for about 6 months during college. my school had an exchange program that allowed me to live with a japanese family and attend japanese university. total immersion.
one of hte best times and experiences of my life.
i wouldn't want to live forever in japan but i would really like to go back and spend some more time.

my wife to be is half colombian (her mom immigrated here when she was 17). even most of her family doesn't want to go back to colombia. its a shame, really. i've seen pictures and it looks beautiful and i know first hand that the people are wonderful. too bad its so damned dangerous.
