Who here plays the French Horn?
well, some of you might remember me from the other thread that I had concerning wind instruments, and after 2 months of thinking, I went with the french horn (perfect wind instrument for me I think). Well I got one to play with over spring break yesterday and so far I've gotten no where other than how to hold the instrument properly.
First I just took the mouth piece and tried the buzz I did on the trombone my friend let me play with.. Wow It's so much different. the mouth piece on the french horn is so much smaller than the one on the trombone
and i'm having problem even making sounds. but yes, this should be fun. i've been with string instruments all my life and i know how to read and play each one of them, so now I'm going to try a wind instrument.
I looked online and found fingerings and music, but thats pretty much all I found. i think to learn how to play and to read in F or Bb I'm going to have to get myself some beginner books. my feeling is that starting a string instrument is just a little easier than starting a wind instrument. so before i go somewhere and buy a book, does anyone have any tips ?? thanks a lot

haha french horn doesnt suck! good luck trying to play it. after playing trombone for so long the french horn mouth piece is tiny. although it is much easier to buzz on that than the trumpet mouth piece. make sure that your not playing on a trumpet mouthpiece. you could but i think its much easier if you had a french horn one. the french horn mouthpiece is deeper and thinner than a trumpet one.
