Who would sign up for the armed forces if actual full scale war broke out (possibly later in the future because of this event)? I personally could not sit by and allow my fellow americans to die without helping out. I have a great job (ASIC Design Engineer). I have a great g/f, family, life, but I could not look myself in the mirror knowing my fellow americans were dying, while I was sitting at home watching it on TV.
I don't know what I would do... I figure with my education I might get set up with some sort of communications job. But, I think I would almost prefer to fight. I know I have never been in a War and it would be scary as hell. maybe I would chicken out, but I think it would be my duty as an US Citizen to go and fight. I wouldn't want to wait to get drafted if it got to that point. I would want to go under my own free will. We all have to die someday. I would rather die fighting, then hiding.

At least you died fighting for freedom, justice and things you believe in. I would rather die like that, then 80 yrs old...dying from too many hamburgers, in a hospital, stuck full of tubes. The way I look at it there are worse things then dying...like living as a coward.

I figure we have lived off of the deaths of past generations who have fought for freedom...and it would be our turn to do the same.

At your death, when time and space converge, and you meet your maker....what is gonna be your legacy...I designed a great computer chip? I helped someone install windows 95? Or, that you fought on the side of right and tried to make the world a better place to live?

I dont want to come off like a GO ARMY commercial, but things like this get one thinking about their existance.....or lack of. What do you guys/girls think?

Hey folks,
Just to add my 02c, yes I would most defn. sign up. I'm already considering signing up with the Reserve Army.
There is a reason that I live in the Western Hemisphere; and that is I value my freedom. I truly believe in the principles of democracy, and would not give up my own values without a fight. Yes, going to war can destroy families and intimate bonds, but while friends and relatives will, most definately come and go, our country has to persist, and future generations will have to tolerate whatever political environment that exists in the future. I for one cannot envision a Canada, an America, or a United Kingdom lacking in democracy and freedom and would thus fight to protect such privileges.

Unfortunately, I've gotten too old to do much good in the army . However, I build oil refineries for a living, and certainly know how to make military jet fuel. My cousin is in the Air Force (flies F-15C), and I always think about him when I build an Alkylation Plant to make JP-4.

I have a friend who works for Raytheon in their optics group. His group makes the lenses for pheonix and other missiles. I think there is a great deal of willingness to ramp-up production, if you know what I mean.

Everyone can help if need be.

God Bless America!

I will definitely go to war.. I was in a building 200 feet away from the first crash and witnessed the whole thing from my office window which shattered the minute the plane crashed.. My whole building also collapsed with the towers.. I want to find the person who has caused myself and thousands of others harm and show him what it is like to have your life threatened..

Sorry to be so hostile, but I am severly affected by the tragedy I am mad at myself for not staying to help those other people. I have minor cuts but they are nothing to what I have seen.. I have lost numerous friends and family who were in the building and who are NYPD and FDNY officials..

Please everyone keep these people in your prayers..

God bless all the victims and their families

I am glad to see support on this board. On some other boards I have posted the same question and received very different opinions. I am not even that physically close to the destruction, but I feel like a part of me has died. It is an interesting feeling...that I can't exactly put into words. I feel like our lives have changed forever. Part of me is excited, part of me is scared and all of me is sad. I don't revel in killing those responsible, but I feel like something must be done. The problem is...there isn't a large gov. to strike. This threat is a coalition of tiny groups, in many different countries with support from a millionaire and governments. Not the enemy we are used to. This "war" may never actually be over.......we could be fighting it for at least the rest of my life. If we kill one generation of American enemies... the next will grow up with more hatred. It is one of those situations with no easy answers.
God bless all of you.
God bless all of your friends and families involved.
God bless America.
With Love-
Erik

I also am too old for the armed services. I flew the F4C Phantom during Nam. I would definitely abandon my profitable business and resume a flying career (with retraining, of course). I would prefer the F15, but the F16 would be cool too. Funny, but my wife asked me this question just last night. When she heard my answer, she said "I'm glad you're too old." I think a night mission over Afghanistan taking out terrorist camps and Afghan military assets would be better that sex. Fellow LA rally mates, please don't tell my wife I said that.

Jiggs- Be glad you made it out alive (I am glad you made it). You did the right thing by getting as far away as possible. I will be praying for you.
