Why can't people learn to speak English?

But the error in your post is that there is no error in my post !

The apostrophe in my post is to denote the fact that there are missing letters, in the same way that we use an apostrophe in don't or shouldn't to denote that there is a missing "o", I have used an apostrophe to denote that missing letters in typographical errors.

Come on Magician, I am sure you are going to argue with me on this one
Saved by a technicality Surely "typo" is accepted as a word in its own right now? I'll let you off though as you are one of the few who almost never seems to make any ("typo's" that is).

Well I don't get as worked up about spellink and stuff as some people, but there are quite a few words I see HEAR time and again, either used in the wrong context or wrongly spelled, which I do find a little irksome . Just REDICULOUS in my opinion, and something should DEFINATELY be done about it.

Perhaps we should have a SEPERATE forum for the bad spellers?

Years ago I had to submit files through a guy who was a real pain the ass. He had this purple ballpoint pen which was his personal trademark. He loved scoring out typos and minor errors so heavily with this bloody pen, that often he went through the paper and a couple of sheets underneath. This was in the days of typewriter, carbon paper and Tipex fluid!

A file was returned to me which had received the purple pen treatment, looking as though it had barely survived the attentions of some demented razor slasher. The offending sentence as far as I could make out was.." Enquiries are being made to trace the whereabouts of Smith who is thought to be working on a casual basis with travelling fairs and circuses."

Confronting PIA in his inner sanctum, I was told that 'Circuses' didn't look right.... and to alter it! As respectfully as I could, I enquired what he would have me alter it to, and I suggested 'circusi', ...with my tongue very firmly in my cheek. He felt that that suggestion sounded better.

When I showed him the Oxford Dictionary with the entry circus(es) pl.. ( I must have been naive in those days) I was curtly told to... "Alter it anyway!"

That sounds way tedious. How about going down this path: The trend in what used to be Valley talk being now mainstream America. The only vowel being used is the short a. Trail is trall, bright is braght, even the weather channel bimbos don't say weather anymore. It's wather. It is the name of their company for Gadz sax. One more subject is the word fun being modified improperly...It was very fun!....goes up my ass about eight miles. Perhaps it started as very funny and got messed up? It's time for me to increase my medication....adjusting the drip on the thorazine now. Pass on Arth and gadwall ta man.
