lol seriously it's just how the way it's worded. If the seller doesn't ask you to pay PP fees, he will just bump the price a little.

yea and it's your choice to conveniently use paypal as the buyer. If you don't want to pay the fees, then send a check and wait a few weeks for it to arrive and clear.
Yeah, and its convenient for the seller to use PayPal as he gets the money in his pocket ASAP without having to wait a couple of weeks...HUH? And, of course, the seller can wait a week or so for the check to clear...and if it doesn't...the seller gets to start the selling process all over again. But with PayPal, the seller will know immediately--but, of course, all that convenience should be borne by the buyer... HUH?
Actually... PayPal will wait up to 21 days before passing it on to the Seller, especially with larger sums. PayPal or check, the seller is always waiting awhile, it becomes a convenience for the Buyer more so than the seller.

Additionally, as a Seller you have to worry about PayPal rules which favor the Buyer buy a lot, and could potentially cause you to lose the money and the item if the Buyer tries to pull something.

Whew--where do you get your info? I have over 1700 feedbacks on eBay, most involving PP as either a buyer or seller. I have bought and sold on that site for over 10 years. I have NEVER had to wait for a PP payment. NEVER, to include payments of over $5000. Once payment is made, it may take upwards of 3-4 days for a transfer from the seller's PP account to the seller's bank account--and that is caused mostly by the Feds. The seller is protected. If there is a problem with the payment, the seller is NEVER required to return the money. Yes, PP also protects the buyer. The purchased item must be as described and there must be proof of mailing. These are the same protections one gets with a credit card purchase.

So, in the future you may want to consider checking your info prior to clicking the "send" button.

A few more seconds of google searching will find you with a variety of additional cases that have occurred similarly. Sometimes via the claim that it never arrived (though if your smart, forced insurance on shipping will fix that problem), or due to "not as described."

The last item I sold was about $3500... They released the money to me days after the buyer declared they had the item (which was long after I had shipped it), but even then they claimed they needed 3-5 days for bank processing. I spoke to my bank about it... No, as soon as Paypal initiated the transaction with them it took no more than 1-2 days. Paypal is just slow... But the longer they keep everyone's money, the more interest made, right? They had that money for about two weeks. They even tell you they are allowed to keep the money up to 21 days.

To sum up: I get my info from experience and research. Anyone selling using PayPal should be aware of the potential to get screwed due to their biased regulations. Not saying it happens frequently, but that it can happen.

Also, there is no "Send" button.

Thereby still expecting the buyer to pay the fee (but being furtive about it).

if you want to accept paypal pay the fees!

What goes around comes and when you buy on ebay the seller doesnt email you asking for $1.59 for fees!

Rant over
Sellers think that buyers should foot the PayPal fees because they (the sellers) want more money. It's a pretty simple concept.

If buyers think that sellers should foot the PayPal fees (because they (the buyers) want more money) then buyers should refuse to pay them. Of course, when that happens the sellers are likely simply to raise the asking price to include the fees.

The economics and sociology are pretty straightforward. Why is this a mystery?

Yes the buyer would still be footing the bill, just like "free shipping". I don't think anyone is disputing the fact that there is such a thing as a free lunch, i think the OP and myself simply find it annoying that some sellers don't just add it into their price. My feeling is that if you are listing items for sale online, you should already have the transaction costs of online selling built in! Paypal (love it or hate it) is THE way to exchange money for consumer to consumer selling online. I don't think this is a mystery to anyone, just a pet peeve about a few forum sellers.

If your selling a sofa on craigslist or in the paper you don't ask for a 3% fee to cover the cost of the add or the inconvenience of answering your doorbell.
All in all its not a big deal, just one of those pet peeves that irks some of us.

Sort of like people using "your" when they mean "you're". Or "add" when they mean "ad".
