Default Why does my smoke detector beep???

Grrr, this is damn annoying. Once every 20 seconds or so, it gives a very short, very loud beep. It happens when, for whatever reason, the apartment gets cold - like, 60F. Maybe warmer, I dunno. Actually, it's happening right now with the one right outside my bedroom, it's happened to others in the apartment, it's even happened with the smoke detectors in the previous apartment I lived in. At first I thought it was a low battery warning, but then I noticed the pattern of it happening when it got cold.

HEY! The SOB just stopped beeping. I've been running the heat since I got home. Thermostat read 61F, now at 68F.

I don't know how old the smoke detectors are but, if
it's not the battery the detectors could be bad!
They're made pretty cheaply these days! It might be under warranty too!

Nope, I'm tellin ya, it's not the batteries. It hasn't beeped in quite a few minutes now. All that's changed is that it's gotten warm in here again. Previously, we changed the battey and that had no effect.

Perhaps it's the voltage circuitry? But how could it be affected by ambient temps? Any EE's out there?

Are you a heavy smoker? Seriously, mine used to do the same thing everytime my wife cooked. I alleviated the problem by putting a halt to her cooking and dining out. We're all happier now and I have alot less gas and indigestion
