Why the hell do people NOT wear seat belts??
I discovered today one reason why I don't always wear my seatbelt. When I got in my car that had been sitting in the HOT sun today I did not buckle up for about 3-5 minutes (until the A/C cooled the car off a little bit) to keep my back off of the seat so it wouldnt' become all sweaty and sticky. I know that this isn't the primary focus of Tedow's post, but I'm just thinking of reasons why someone might not put it on. So for that initial period I was one of the idiots.

So I can't move my car until the shifter (and seatbelt) is cool enough to touch.
Problem solved

I will second s2000raj's post. . . .i'm an ER doc, and people DO NOT DIE when they have seat belts on. Fly out the windshield of a car going 80, and, well, good luck. I won't be able to help you much. I have no problem with people not wearing seatbelts (or helmets on motorcycles), AS LONG AS they sign a form saying that the public/gov't won't pay for their care as a vegetable for the next 30 years. . . .
Such a form would be great, and would be useful for MANY aspects of life that are currently legislated. I don't understand the need to make everything into a stinkin' law. Just let people do whatever they want to do, and live with the consequences of their actions...if I want to risk my life without affecting others, why shouldn't I be allowed to? Let's face it, there's no way we can legislate every potentially dangerous activity. If we did that, then we'd all be sitting on our asses not doing a Hell of a lot.
First - I always wear my seat belt.
Second - if you are a rear seat passenger - not wearing your seatbelt is as much a risk for the person sitting in front of you as for yourself. Back in the day when I was in high school 3 guys had stolen a car and went for a "joy ride". Well the cops chased them and they ended up running the car in to a small brick wall. The guy in the back seat hit the guy in the front seat so hard the guy in the front seat died.
The only guy I knew of the three was the one who died in the front seat.

PS: People who steal cars piss me off.
