Default Why are parts so expensive?

Why is it all the aftermarket parts for the S2000 are so expensive?

Amuse, Mugen, Spoon, ASM, etc. Even the American companys - Inlinepro or Lovefab - I mean 13.5K for an NSX turbo kit, 3K for a "diff kit" that doesn't even include a diff?

What gives? Marketing? Knowing people will pay? Parts should not be that expensive. I wanted to do the R200 rear upgrade and I looked at the Inlinepro kit - 3K for:

InlinePRO Mounting
Drive Shaft Shop Stage 5 Axles
Drive Shaft Shop Hubs
Drive Shaft Shop Steel Driveshaft
Extended Studs
(No diff included)

Just wow. I love this car but I am getting very annoyed with the costs tuners are slapping on their products. I think I am done modding the S2000 and am going back to the 240Z. I built that entire car for 6K and it runs 12s - without breaking - all day long. Now I'm being told I can't even boost the S with a used CTSC for less than 7K (350RWHP). Crazy.

L28ET, FMIC, megasquirt standalone, injectors, t3/4 hybrid, R200 VLSD, autometer gauges, other bits like short shifter, tokico struts, springs, etc..

My dad had the entire car stripped and is in paint right now - was suppose to be my birthday present, but its stuck in the "while we're at it" stage so everything is getting redone. I think I am going to dump another 5K into it and get it stroked, bigger turbo, etc - or maybe an RB26. We'll see.

cause until now especially for the s2k there wasnt alot of our generation that owned one if you ever noticed from 00-05 only people you would see in a s2k were in their 50's. and like dan h said someone has to pay the engineers and r&d. now days $30,000 for a new ride is kinda normal. but "back in the day" you would look at your buddy and be like how the hell can you afford that. not to mention the "middle man" raising the price when he gets ahold of a jdm part. and about the nsx its kinda like a lambo, if you can afford it you can afford to fix it.

If you go to the driveshaft shops website, the 1000hp axles for an s2k alone are 1800 dollars, now include the price of the driveshaft and the mounts are you are easily around 3k.

You gotta pay to play...

i think the prices are in relation to the cost of the car. Thats why you can build a cheaper car for less money. My EG for instance...I got maybe 2500 tied up into it and that got me a JDM B16A w/ tranny, Megan cat back exhaust, Megan Hi-Flow cat, Skunk2 Springs, Tokico Blue Shocks, Megan rear LCA's, Motegi MR7 wheels, ricer monster tach.

theres probablly more but you get the gist of what im sayin. to do the same type of mods to the S id be looking at a minimum of around 5k.
