why unpack on vacation
yessss finally someone with the same observation. the most I have ever done to unpack, ever, when travelling is hang some dress shirts or a jacket up in the closet.
everything else stays in the suitcase until I wear it and then throw it on the floor until I shove it back in the luggage.

When I travel to foreign countries, I usually just bring my laptop and 2 days worth of clothes. Then I just buy the rest of my clothes and whatever I need when I get there. But then again, I'm a guy, and not a complicated female, so I enjoy living a life of simplicity =) Plus, shopping is new countries is fun.
Since I don't bother traveling within the USA, I don't know what I'd do in that situation.

JonBoy - Since I mostly travel to China, Japan, Korea (Work) and Hong Kong and Thailand (for fun), I'm usually able to find places to buy clothes easily. Plus, all of those countries have a 7-11 on every corner to buy essentials like toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, whatever. In Hong Kong and Thailand, they have mostly the same stores we do, and sometimes more. They have GAP, Old Navy, Armani Exchange, Polo, tons more, and huge department stores. In local department stores, you can buy nice dress shirts for like $6, I'm still wearing some that I bought in Thailand 3 years ago, and people always ask me where I got them haha!
Upon leaving my vacation destination, I usually throw away everything that is non-essential. I don't bring back my toothbrush, shaving cream, shampoo, toothpaste, or any other trivial crap that just takes up space in my suitcase. The last time I went to Japan, I bought so much clothing etc. that when I got to Narita airport, United Airlines (sucks) wanted to charge me an extra $1000 USD to take my additional bag on the plane. I had one carry-on and two average sized bags. I actually had to unpack one of them, and use the airport post office to mail that stuff back to the USA. It cost me $90 to mail three boxes of clothes and other stuff, but I avoided the $1000 extortion fee that the airline wanted just to get my bags on the plane.
