Why in the world are we still paying customs and taxes to Canada?

I thought NAFTA took care of all the goods flowing between Canada/US/Mexico! I found out a package worth $45 and weighs 21 pounds will cost me $32 in shipping, and another $32 in customs and (most of it are) GST! WTF?!

Just ranting.

I believe that NAFTA just made the process easier. It worked on a harmonized rate structure for Canada, USA, and Mexico. I also believe that the GST is like a sales tax. Normally this is charged by the seller as an add on to the invoice.

The trade I think is based on goods made in whichever country is involved, not say items imported from China.

Waste of friggen time.

The GST (Goods and Services Tax) came to be in 1990, hated it ever since. The goverment in house right now won because one of their first mandates was to remove the tax...well we still have it.

Our provincial sales tax is 15%, 7 GST, 8% Provincial Sales Tax (PST)

See this is why when we deal with American vendors we try to cut a deal on how to declare the value. So cut is a friggen break heh

it just sucks, i mean, what's the point of "free trade" when you have to pay taxes like this?

Do you know that what we pay in GST we can get back, if we claim it.
