keep in mind, after all the effort, you crack the code, get the car, and realize it is a race only car, not legal on the streets, and you need cash to join in the annual ferarri challenge series races. of course, you can have fun at the local tracks when they let us in to play.

sure, you could do that.

not sure about all the tax rules, but if its like winning a lottery, IRS will nab you for 30% of the prize worth, so before you do anything, write a check to uncle for $51,000. (i think new prices on these is around $170k, and you get a spare engine also). find a local dealer to buy it, or sell it on consignment for you. Ferrari of Washington has 1 '01 for $179k, and 2 '00 for $159k each, so lets say they could sell for $180k just for arguments sake. not sure what their cut would be, but they have to make a profit, so after selling they hand you $160k.

you want a new 360 for the street? put your name on the 2-3+ year wait list, depending on whether you want manual/f1 shift, or coupe/spyder and twiddle your thumbs. i have been on the list for a 6 speed coupe since july 2000, and it looks i may get to the top in another 12-15 months. keep in mind, i am not getting the more desirable spyder f1 package, meaning i had fewer names in front of me when i started.

ok, you do not want to wait, you have cash in hand and will take a used one. hmmm, top down driving is fun, but they are asking $245k for '01 silver with 4k mi. dang, thats $70k over new list price. set sights a little lower, and for $180k you could get a used '99 or '00 coupe with around 8k mi on it. end result here is you basically swap your challenge for a street car minus the dealership 5k-20k profit margin. so for about $60k (remember uncle grabbed the cash on day 1 -- i think) you are driving around in a $150k msrp car. oops, lets not forget about insurance at $7k per year (at least for aged and decrepit 45 year old like me), license/property tax of $2300 (Va charges annual property tax on vehicles ), gas, maintenance, etc...

and lets not forget, all this depends on you cracking the code! good luck!

not upset, just giving info....

got my s2k in april 2000 to use as a daily driver because i was putting way too many miles on my 328, then killed my 328 at a track event at summit point the next month. by the time insurance finished paying off the car (they were upset about the "track" event) i decided what the heck, wait for a new bigger/better/faster one instead of getting another used 328/348/355. the s2k has been enough fun in the meantime, but as my name gets closer to the top of the list, i do feel the anxiety growing.... i think that is why i started getting some performance mods recently, i feel the need for speed!
