Default Windows 2000 Pro Idiot

Yep, thats me! I can turn on, but I can't configure it (that well)!

Can anyone tell me how to set up a user new profile (for the babysitter) in Windows 2000 Pro?

I don't want her to download/install programs (such as chat programs), and I'd like to limit which files she can look at (I hate it when she looks at my wife's porn collection). When the kids are asleep I don't care if she surfs the net, I just don't want her to have full access to my computer.

I guess what I'm asking is how to limit privileges and programs/files under a user profile?

Thanks!

I think guests have access to all the files on the computer except files in a different profile. So it would be a good idea to put your personal files in 'my documents' in your profile. Two ways of setting up a guest account:

control panel / users and passwords/ add / type a name / type a password or leave it blank / choose other / guest / and you are done.

Or you could just enable the guest profile which is disabled by default.

control panel / users and passwords / advanced / users / right click / properties / uncheck disable.

Start > Control Panel > User Accounts.

Note: I'm assuming you mean XP Pro since I'm not aware of a home/pro distinction in Win2k.

I'm going on memory. But try:

Right click on My computer, then manage. It should open a window that shows users. From there you should be able to set rights and such.

I might be and probably wrong.

He's talking about Windows 2000 Professional. The desktop version of Win 2K is called professional. There is no home version, only server, advanced server, datacenter, and professional.

you can control access, however parental controls don't really work wit W2K.. the best idea is to get a seperate program to log all website visited, and to stop the access from some.

Win 2000 was for businesses, I guess they just don't worry about the children
