Default windows vista sound problem

hey guys i have a hp notebook and today all of a sudden i had no sound and my sound icon on the bottom right corner was x'ed out. i could not click on it or adjust volume. it was just completly disabled. And it said there was no sound driver software installed. So i googled it and restored the driver software and restarted it, well it worked fine for like 30 mins. Then again i loose sound but this time the sound icon is adjustable and i can click on the sound icon. there is no x on the icon now. But i just have no sound. does anyone know whats the problem? i need a fix this is just retarted, i mean i didnt touch a thing and one morning i start it and no sound WTF!!!!

What is the model of the notebook? Look on the botton where the white hp label is and it should say something like ...

DV6045NR, G60-2050dx, PV2000... something like that.

If you have an adjustable volume that you can increase and decrease manually on the keys, try seeing if that was minimized. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver again and see what happens. Plug in your headphones and try that out.

Really, the best method to find out what the problem and solution is, is by using trial and error. Try things that are associated with sound and try those out. Hopefully it works for you.

^What he said.

Also, if you go into your device manager, check and make sure that the sound device on your computer is detected and working properly.

I strongly advocate the headphone test too, in the event that maybe the speakers are flaky.

Reboot if you haven't already. First thing you should do if your computer is acting weird.
