Is anybody running it? I was wondering if it had NT security features built in. I've seen the list of features, but am not sure about the security.

I've had a copy of XP for the past few weeks. It works great so far...yet to have a crash. XP is built on the Win2K core so it has the same security (or lack of )as NT/2K. Like I said it's very stable and the UI changes aren't too hard on the eyes. The clear type technology helps out a lot with those with LCD screens. Probably the best reason to get it is that XP does away with .dlls. Well not exactly, but in theory programs don't share them anymore so you don't have the associated crashes that seem to come along with uninstalling programs. I really like it.

I'm also running XP Beta 2 at work. Other than the GUI changes, it looks a lot like Win2k underneath. The ctrl-alt-del is the same. If you are used to Win2k it'll take a bit of hunting around to find all the tools you are used to. All in all, it's pretty stable so far.

BTW, Microsoft is trying to get WinXP out in October. But then again, have they ever met a deadline announce out this far? They're planning on spending more money on marketing than they did on Win95 so you should be hearing a lot about it tis summer / fall. Internally to Microsoft, they're up against the Xbox which is also targeted to make it out before this Christmas. They've already started stockpiling the parts to build the box.

If anyone is interested, they may have a free Office XP launch / Windows XP preview event in your city (hey, they have one in Richmond, so they'll probabaly have one near you) where you can see Office XP, Windows XP and the Xbox, plus get some MS goodies. http://www.microsoft.com/usa/xplaunch/default.asp
