What was she going to do with her compact once she picked it up? I'm assuming that she was going to apply makeup while driving if she was already running late and couldn't pull over to retrieve it.

I'm glad she's okay, but at least three errors of judgement compounded to cause that accident. And all were avoidable with better planning (or even waking up 10 minutes earlier).
