Just out of interest - having a spare 2 mins while the machines chatter to one another - what is the difference between 'retired' and ' glad it's gone'?

I've never owned auto-equipped car, but am on my 2nd auto-equipped truck. It all depends on the vehicle, it's powerband, and the shifter's precision/throw to me. Manuals are great in enthusiast cars, but no big deal in relatively boring vehicles. I also don't think an auto is too bad in something like a C5, which has so much torque that it really doesn't hurt acceleration much.

Well for me with my '01 accord, I prefer the auto. being that I'm allways on the phone, writing stuff down, basically comatose while working I would hate to worry about shifting as well. HOWEVER, when I get back in to the S2K I remember why I love driving so much. I think there is room for both. Car dependant ofcourse.

No - they're for little rich girls & boys who can't drive! BTW, my wife's, daughter's, and two son's cars all have manual transmissions.
