would you join the fraternal order of police?

i donated before (long ago) because a buddy was with LAPD and they had some cool activities for members.

would you ever want to join the FOP?

One can only belong to the FOP if he/she is a sworn law enforcement officer, as it is sort of a labor union for police. A civilian can join the FOP Associates as a supporter, if I'm not mistaken.
