Performance speaking, can the WRX beat the S2K?

Some one in a WRX try to race me yesterday off the line but I didn't race them.

Can a WRX beat a S4?

Mark_12345,

That depends on the driver of the s2000. I figure that the WRX is easier to launch than the s2000 with it's all wheel drive launch (dammit).

Now...if you are already moving...I would say that the advantage goes to the s2000. Reasoning: The WRX gets good 1/4 mile and 0-60 times when it jumps from the launch...I believe the s2000 is a bit faster when you are already moving.

Unicron,

Damn, its just hard to believe that the $25K WRX can beat the $35K S2K.

For a few exceptions, when I drive the S2K I 'own' the street..yeah right;-)

wouldn't count too much on the rolling start making a big difference. the WRX gets little power below 3k.

so, again, it's all driver. of course, there is a LOT of tuning that can be done to the WRX that can yield pretty big improvements. so with some work it could cease to be "all driver."

WRX

The WRX is an excellent car...it has been for many years over seas. The new US distributed WRX is a great performing, and affordable car...I don't like the headlights much...but you can't overlook the whole car because of that.

$$$

Yes, the WRX is a fomidable apponent for the S2000 performancewise...the dollar figure of the two cars is really off because the WRX is a kick ass mid priced sedan and the S2000 is a mid priced kick ass roadster...and the average roadster costs more than the average sedan.

Performance

Acceleration
The WRX gets pretty good 1/4 mile times and 0-60 times because of it's 4 wheel drive launch. If the S2000 and the WRX are side to side at a drag strip...the WRX will beat the S2000 on the launch and the S2000 will start to catch up later on in the game. I'm willing to bet that the S2000 will pull on the WRX after 100 MPH though.

autocross
Handling of the WRX is excellent because of the 4 wheel drive. I figure the WRX is alot easier to drive in an autocross than the s2000. I was at a autocross this past weekend...and I saw a gang of Subaru's:

http://
<a href="http://www.th....JPG
One of the RS drivers was actually beating my times...but that's not saying much because that was the first time for me at that track...and I don't drive too well in the first place. My best time was a 64 second run...I remember hearing the blue RS running a 63 second run. There was this guy out there with a S2000 that was running a 61 second run...and that is a kick ass time for street tires. I couldn't hear what the WRX was running...but I will be sure to post the times when I get them.

Road Course
Now...the autocross is one thing...but I would be really interested to see how a WRX can compare to the S2000 on a road course (like in the best motoring videos). I'm thinking the S2000 will take the WRX on a road course.

Modifications

As well all know the S2000 is expensive to get it to improve on it's acceleration. On the other hand...the WRX has a turbo running 14 lbs. of boost. I was talking with a Subaru salesman...and he says overseas, the WRX was running 17 lbs. of boost just fine. Subaru salesman also told me that they already have upgrade impellers for the WRS and a drop in turbo that is bigger than the stock turbo. Plus, there is a bunch of aftermarket turbo tuners you can get for the WRX. A boost control would do wonders for that car. To sum it up...it's alot cheaper to get the WRX to run faster than the S2000.

I never seem to get street races, but....some kid decided to race his yellow WRX and I in my type R... of course he does this right past the township police building so I wasn't exactly game.

I did however, after he pulled out quickly make an attempt up to 60mph and did not catch up to him at all.

I would be he hit 80-90mph right past the firestation and police station, so he won! I was impressed that I didn't catch him at all once I tried....

Look up all the other WRX threads, though here's one I posted recently where I actually lined up a friend of mine with a WRX: http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...?threadid=10351

Also, at 3k revs the WRX has more power than S2000 - 17% more to be precise so I would not say that it does not have power there. Also, by the time WRX has 3.5k revs, it has 57% more power than S2000. That is a huge advantage at low revs. In my tests the WRX shoots about a car lenght ahead if you're 'racing' one and are not in the VTEC. You really need VTEC to be able to keep up with on or beat it. Up to 100km/h the WRX is very fast and because of it's torque is hard thing to beat by S2000. Over 100km/h you start noticing a slight advantage towards the S2000 and over 140km/h you're comfortably pulling away.

On a track I have not personally met one, but from the lap times at the local tracks the S2000 is a fair bit faster on the track. At Winton (local track) the WRX does 1:45s while the S2000 does 1:43s.

No matter how good and well balanced the WRX is, it cannot match the S2000 in terms of handling/braking or over 140km/h. In the city and during 'trafic light drags' it is a very formidable match that actually has the 'launch' and torque going in it's favour.
