There are commercial free stations, but not all are. I will have to check out my catalogs to see if the decks that support XM are AM/FM as well, but I would have to believe that they are. That would be like having direct TV and not being able to watch the 6:00 news in your city.

I would definitely pay monthly fees for digital radio if it meant seeing the names of the songs played, and perhaps the lyrics sung.

Don't forget, you have to buy a new receiver and/or a separate RF Tuner module plus an XM antenna before you can get XM, so you're looking at a cash outlay for equipment, plus the monthly fee, plus I imagine California and some other states will find a way to tax that.

I noticed Crutchfield has a couple of solutions in their latest catalog, and although I haven't looked at them in detail, looks like $300-400 just for equipment.

Very similar to setting up for satellite TV as far as set up costs and monthly costs.

I hope its not like satellite TV with 300 channels and nothing good on...

The reason that i thought that there may be no commercials is because DTV has all those music channels commercial free. If the service was free, commercials would be necessary to pay for the stations, but with a monthly fee, stations would not have to have commercials....but if this logic were correct, all cable TV stations would not have commericals, and they do, so what do i know!

I will wait and see. I am a gadget guy, so i may be forced to make a purchase to see what it is all about.

Being that I can not hear well with the top down and exhaust, I doubt I'd wanna pay for radio.
