this distinguished gentleman used to be the embassador of the ROC (Republic of China, aka Taiwan) to the US. he opposes the former Taiwanese president Lee, whom he perceives as a danger to the people of Taiwan, so he cut himself with a blade in front of the media in order to make his issue clear to the people. ouch!

dedication to one's political views like this is not often seen, is it? i hope he's ok.
