Does anyone know if using spacers on the OEM wheels cause any sort of wear and tear that one would be concern about?

You'll need to worry about 2x as many studs being stretched or cracking or stripping. I've also heard that adding a spacer will add leverage on the wheel bearings, and thus decreasing their functional lives. I don't know HOW much it will decrease wheel bearing life -- or if one should worry about it but I haven't read anything major on the topic. Spacers are regularly used on race purpose cars, but they also go through wheel bearings on a regular basis

got my replicas from these folks, $120 shipped per wheel
I got 2 of them for $109 + 9% tax each. They accepted by bid of $99 but I already went through Bing CB. I would throw offers starting at $90 and see if that would stick.

it doesnt add any more stress on the wheel bearings than running a numerically low offset wheel in the first place

like a 20mm on the rear is going to fit like a +45... which is pretty much what everyone runs... 17x9+45 RPF1, amirite?

there is no difference

I'd have to agree but if you told everyone that they're decreasing wheel bearing life by running a +45 RPF1 by some marginal amount, they'd have a ****** fit. Honestly I don't think it matters, but it is a longer lever arm and thus more force is applied.

I don't think you need to worry about it -- I run 20/25mm spacers on the track. Just check your parts on a regular basis.

you know, it might not matter at all.... with the oem 17x8.5+65 the leverage "arm" is biased far into the "center" of the car

when going with lower offset its actually "centering" the forces more, wouldnt you think? a +0 wheel with the wheel face in the very center of the wheel barrel would have the shortest "arm" possible because it is only 4.25" either way. with the stock setup the +65 is making the arm very long because the 8.5" width is largely towards the center...

i think you might be able to make an argument that using spacers could actually extend bearing life....

the only thing i think would counter this is the stupid amount of camber that is necessary to run some of these setups... no?
