Another intake thread...
After deciding to buy an intake for the S2, I have read post after post after post about the Comptech and K&N FIPK intakes, and nothing really sets the two apart. Both appear to have similar gains with the Comptech being about $80 more and slightly quieter.
Of course there is the debate on paper filters versus foam, but neither filters as well as stock and both require maintenance.
So, I just wanted to throw this out on the local forum to get an opinion from people that I (somewhat) know and (mostly) trust.
Any personal experience with these two intakes would also be great to hear.
Thanks,
Dan

If the comptech was as noticeable as the K&N has been, I wouldn't even waste my $$$$.
I don't feel that my $300 was spent wisely. It's louder for sure, butt dynoed a bit further. I think I should have went with the AEM V2 instead.
The cheap'ness & quality of the K&N system is stupid.
Between these two, I'd rather have gone Comptech.

I just can't bring myself to pay close to $1000 for a few hp. Coming from the turbo world of easy power increases ruined me.
My real issue is that I miss wrenching on cars, and just want to do something to mine. The Comptech and K&N both offer decent gains, a little more noise and minimal threat of water pick up. I drive 20k miles a year, so that is important.

I love the sound of the Comptech. The install is crap. They could have designed a little better box. As long as you insulate the ac line, you should have minimal rattles. The Js and Mugen are wonderful parts if you have that kind of money lying around.
I can't stomach it.
