Mike,

Funny you should ask. Just got mine a week ago. Inspiron 2650. XP/Pro, 2G Pentium 4, 256M RAM, 20G hard drive, integrated modem and NIC, Office XP Small Business, all for $1,502 plus tax.

I have the Inspiron 2650 also but upgraded to the bigger screen (runs at 1400x1050 or something like that) and 500 Mb RAM when ordering. One of the best things IMO about Dell is the 3 year next day on site labour and parts warranty.

Don't have the notebook but I can say from personal experience that Dell systems are pretty dependable IMO and the support and warranty are even better.

Go for the 3 year complet customer care it is worth it. One of my sales people broke his keyboard off in the ps2 port on his the other day and no problem. Dell came out the next day and replaced the mother board and this laptop is 33 months old. All I buy is Dell laptops for my salespeople as I know they will trash the machines and Dell fixes them no questions asked.

we have a dell contract here at work and we have had pretty good luck...make sure you get the max warranty...its worth it in the end.

I have several personal dell PCs. Make sure you get a dell onboard NIC card as well.. and bump up to office XP...

good luck.

also cut down the RAM where possible and get some from www.crucial.com you will save alot in the end. Dell really takes people to the cleaners on RAM unless they are offering some kind of special.
