I had heard rumors that Ohio was going to do away with front plate to cut down on costs or something...... however I'm sure it's not true, but we can hope!

I never put a front plate on until 3 years ago when I got nabbed twice in one day with two different cars.

It's not that bad:

Hey everyone.. I'm the new guy here from the Cincinnati area. I picked up by 02 back in October and have been loving life ever since!

I have a question about front license plates.. has anyone had issues with with not having a front license plate on their car? I'm relatively new to Ohio, so I don't know how the enforcement goes with all that. They stick out like a sore thumb. I keep it in the car so I can play the stupid "I need bolts" excuse or whatever, but rather not deal with it. Any thoughts??
I meant to ask viper, what part of cincy are you from?

$100 ticket for no front tag?? That bites. Laser guns still work on head lights and windshields. Stupid law.

I've driven by speed traps in West Chester with no problems so far, but I might be pushing my luck. Although, I'd almost rather pay $100 than put the beaver tooth on the front of my car...
thats what I said after the 1st one....even after the 2nd...but once I had sunk $300 into nothing, I changed my mind.

I've been hunting for a motorized plate lift. I know they have them for Hot Rods, but I can't seem to find them. Imagine how nice it would be to flip a switch and your license plate folds away for the clean look.

I refuse to put plates on the front of my cars ever since the holder put permanent "snake bites" on my NSX bumper. On the RL, they expect you to use self tapping screws into the bumper! It is obvious Honda doesn't care much for the law either.

I believe the enforcement is regional and situational.

There are times I have heard about when the State Hwy Patrol or County Sheriffs will crack down on violators for a few weeks or so then, they go lax again for awhile. My wife was pulled over by a SHP and actually mentioned this when they gave her a warning.

Also, some cities and/or townships are tougher than others when it comes to front plates. I know in Columbus that Dublin City, Sharon Township, and Worthington City are much worse than say Columbus City police. As a result, I try to stay away from those areas, especially late on a Friday or Saturday night when the police are just looking for a reason to pull you over an checkout your sobriety. It will likely take some to figure out your area.

Other things to consider, if your car stands out, like with dark tinted windows, dark license plate covers, or anything else that pushes the legal envelope then, you are more likely to get pulled over too (IMO).

With that said, I have ran without a front plate on several cars over the last 15 years in central Ohio and had only two incidents, one warning and one ticket (that was dropped in court). <knock on wood>

Comming up to 4 years with no plate (40,000 miles) and have never been taged. I pass speed traps every day on I71 and I75 and have driven behind a cop with no problems.

FurY, I'm out of West Chester.

Seems to be a 50/50 shot with getting pulled over.. most seem to end with warnings, too, but then again I have horrible gambling luck....
