I live in Cuyahoga county and have a 2006 s2000 that I think I'll have to get it E-Checked within the next year or two. Now I want to turbo my car with the stage one IP kit using the flash pro that is coming out soon to tune it. I will also have either a test pipe or hfc with a single exhaust. Should I be worried about not passing the echeck with this. How does it work here, I'm from Columbus and they don't do this there, thanks for the help.

 

You will need a cat no matter what. All of the cars get sniffed. I use to do emissions retesting. You can't fool them. You just need to be prepared to work on the car more. The best solution back in the day was to register the car in different county if you knew someone with an address.

 

I've taken a couple other post 1996 vehicles down to the echeck in valley view and as long as they had obdII, they just plugged into the computer to check for cel's and missing sensors. if your ecu thinks that there is a cat, so does the computer.

 

i'm pretty sure they use that mirror underneath the car and sweep to look for a cat... i don't know if your car is so low that they can't see it (you and those crazy espilirs ) but I'm pretty sure they looked.

When did they stop sniffing?

 

Well I plan on using the new hondata flashpro which just flashes the ecu so I retain OBDII and stock ecu, so when they check it it shouldn't show any codes or anything, is that correct? And say if I just get a high flow cat, is that legal? And if they do the sniffer wouldn't that pose more problems cuz of the kit even though I would be showing no codes. And yeah maybe that mirror won't fit under my car cuz of those espelir's, haha.

 

Tons of experience with this one...

1) They do NOT do sniffer tests on cars with OBD-II. So for your car they will NOT hook up the sensor to your tail pipe.
2) They are SUPPOSED to check for visible cat with a mirror under your car. Sometimes they do, sometime they don't, sometimes they do it for show (aka roll the mirror anywhere underneath the car whether there's an exhaust or not).
3) If you have an CEL, you will fail eCheck. As long as your ECU thinks it's running clean, you will pass eCheck, with or without a cat, assuming that you've passed the above.

Bottom line, there are major inconsistencies at eCheck centers, it really depends on being at the right or wrong place at the right or wrong time.

At least eCheck is now free and no longer $20 a pop, although eChecking every two years is a PITA...

When I took my '06 in they couldn't get the OBD-II connector to mate up with the plug so the sniffed and made it a point to check with the mirror.
