Engine Light at 9870 miles?
Here is another one for you guys. On my way home from work today my check engine light came on. The car has 9870 miles on it. Is this normal for this mileage, or is there somethign wrong? Thanks in advace for any help.
Make sure your gas cap is tightened so you hear a few clicks. If it is loose, then you'll get an emissions fault. That will cause the lamp to come on.
So I would try:
1. Tighten gas cap.
2. Pull negative battery terminal for ~10-20 seconds to clear the fault memory.
Hopefully the light will go away, and never come back.

Had same problem and was my gas cap, def. check that. Is it the engine light, or maintenance???? but definitely take the battery terminal off and then drive it around a mile or two to see if it trips it again.
Definitely not normal, i have 22K miles on mine and only time the engine light came on was with the gas cap not tight all the way.

Its the light that looks like a little engine and says Check. Also I hadnt driven the car in awhile and its the same gas as before, so I havent opened it in a long time, maybe dramatic temp differneced in the last couple months her in Ohio are to blame. Ill try opening it and closing it again, plus I need to fill my tank anyway. Have gone through3/4 tank in the last couple days. THanks for the imput.

Don't reset the light!. Go to Autozone and have them pull the code. It is free. BTW are you sure it is the Check Engine Light and not the Maintenance Indicator Light?
