Default First speeding ticket!

Picked up my first ever speeding ticket this evening after breaking the S out of hibernation....

Officer was extremely professional and kept complimenting me for being the same way (he was going the opposite way and I stopped, I was also exercising my CCW permit and he was very pleased with how I handled all of that, I have a clean record, etc).... But still wrote me the ticket.

Written up for 62 in a 40 (in Summit County).... In your guys experience should I just man up and plead guilty/pay?

I'm open to suggestions from people who have "been there".

Happy Spring.

Hmm alright I guess I need to find a local attorney.

I carry a Sig Sauer P220 in .45 (I'm 6'2, 170 lbs)... Gets tough in the warm months sometimes lol. You?

I'm happy to pay the fine, just don't want any points.

Lets get somethings clear here.

Points are only a system of taking your license away.
If you want no points, by all means, hire an attorney n blah blah.

If you're really clever, you will get this reduced to a non moving violation, so that your INSURANCE wont sky rocket for the next 2-3 years.

The idea is to pay court costs & what not, & avoid paying extra for the next 2-3 years ("broken tail light" is better than 100 in a 35, let me tell you...)

Was this radar, pacing, laser, or a guess?

What Sam said. The speed is a speed. It'll show up on your MVR regardless. Ohio, if I'm not mistaken, doesn't have a non-chargeable SPD code. So, even if you don't have "points", your insurance will still have a speeding violation record.

Btw. I think you mean minor moving violation (MMV). I don't know of a non-moving violation.

You can file a motion for discovery, & see when the radar unit was last calibrated ( should be every six months I think ) & if it was calibrated using the speciific tuning forks for that unit.

The department should produce a certificate of some sort. If this was a 'rich' city, chances are they are on top of things.

Your next bet is to try to talk to the prosecutor & get him/her to get your violation bumped down. Do not settle for the infamous 4 over ( like 39 in a 35 ) thats still speeding.

Or hire an attorney that knows what they are doing.
