I'm looking something portable, with a 14.x" up to 15.x" screen. No need to go into mass detail on what I want in it, just trying to see where I should go to get one for the best deal. Ideally I would like an HP, but I'm open to others...I'd prefer to stay away from Sony and Dell, but I have not ruled Dell completely out. Anybody? Where are all my Asian friends when I need them!
Been looking myself Timmy....Maybe when someone chimes-in...they can help me out, also....!!!!!!
You need to determine how much you want to spend and how you want to use it. They are all good at this point in the game. For a real good one, plan on $1300 to $1700 and 2 years of good hard use before it is outdated and parts are not available to repair it. I deal in the used suff. Also, look at factory refurbished since there are some good deals there. And make sure you get a 3 year warrantee.
I bought a Dell desktop last year and it's been great. I have a Dell laptop at work, and it's so-so. It was fine until i put autocad on it. At the time, they had the best deals around, IMO.
i bought an hp pavillion dv6000 a couple months ago and since then so have a few friends. seems to work great for what i use it for (which is nothing crazy at all)
and was reasonably priced!! hope that helps

That's exactly what I have, and my only gripe is that it was that widescreen format, which IMO is terrible for computing. Good for movie viewing, but that's it.
One thing I did was to go to the nearest MicroCenter and check out the keyboards. The HP had by far the nicest keyboard for me - I would have hated any other option I might have chosen.

I've had dell , HP / compaq , sony , gateway , apple and toshiba (yea i'm a comp nut) The apple has been by far the best computer , but pricey and if you don't know how to use it don't bother. The HP / Compaq stuff is my next favorite. A) if you have a problem they take care of you with overnight shipping and a 3 day turn around B) there product vs price is pretty nice. Check Newegg.com or even their own site. If you afford an IBM though those are pretty bullet proof also. , Lastly if you don't have at least a gig of ram and your using Vista your going to be pissed. I've had 2 computers with vista and actually "downgraded" them both to XP and ran sooo much faster and smoother.
